  • Joe Broido has joined Thunderbird Films as president of Thunderbird Films USA. In this newly created position, Broido will lead the expansion of Thunderbird Films in the U.S.

    Broido has produced or executive produced over 40 telefilms and miniseries for broadcast and cable networks worldwide, including NBC, CBS, ABC, Global, Lifetime, Syfy and Disney.

  • Rodrigo Pizá has been hired at Cookie Jar Entertainment, looking after sales of new programming and consumer products in Latin America. Pizá will be based at Cookie headquarters in Toronto.

    Most recently, Pizá oversaw similar territory during a VP stint at HIT Entertainment. Before that he was GM of the Locomotion Channel, a joint venture between The Hearst Corporation and Corus Entertainment.

  • Peace Arch Entertainment has hired former Corus Entertainment programming exec Jennifer Graham to head up its Canadian program sales division. Graham, most recently associate director of programming at Corus, becomes vice-president of sales and acquisitions, selling Peace Arch movies and TV series to Canadian broadcasters, pay-TV and video-on-demand and other ancillary platforms.

  • C.R.A.Z.Y. producer Pierre Even has lured acquisitions executive Marie-Claude Poulin to partner with him on a new Montreal-based production venture, Item 7. Even, who left Cirrus Communications in June, launched the company to pursue his own production goals.

    Poulin was an acquisitions executive at Equinoxe Films. Over the last 20 years, she has held senior executive positions at Norstar, Malofilm, CFP (now Lionsgate), FIDEC, Melenny Productions and TVA Films.

  • Christine Solomon has joined Fakers, the TV movie in preproduction at Cité-Amérique for TMN and Movie Central.

    The Egypt-born, Montreal-bred actress - also to be seen this fall in Heliopolis at both the Toronto and Vancouver film festivals - represented by Angie Sakla-Seymour at Angie's Model and Talent. Fakers is produced by Greg Dummett (Last Casino, Lost and Delirious) and directed by Pierre Gill (Last Casino) from a script by Jesse McKeown (Robson Arms). It is due to air in the spring.

  • Celebrity entrepreneur Kevin O'Leary is set to join CBC News as co-anchor on a new weekday business program that will bow on CBC Newsworld in the fall.

    The as-yet-untitled half-hour show will feature O'Leary and former Business News Network colleague Amanda Lang, who was tapped by the pubcaster last month. The pair worked together on BNN's SqueezePlay..
